History

Fortunately for our community, a small but mighty group of people saw the need for a weekly event during the summer months. A place where the community could enjoy some live music and dinner in the good company of friends and neighbors.

That group included Monica Russell, Faith Magalsky, Nancy and Skip McIlhatten, and Katie Weaver of MSU Extension, all guided by Rob Bankston with his experience and expertise gained from the Livingston Farmers Market.

Another original, Linda Hausler, is STILL a member of our team! Rachel Wilhelm Anderson of M Design Group in Livingston and Lynn Crawford of Delta Signs have also been with us the entire time as both our marketing consultants and generous sponsors. Diane Draper created the artwork for the logo design. Community Closet in Livingston awarded a grant that enabled us to buy our first market tents!

The first markets were held in 2015 at The Drinking Horse Coffee Cabin and Bakery in Clyde Park. Monica provided the venue and coffee and dessert. Faith handled dinner and fundraising, and Linda coordinated the music. Leslie Witter from Root to Rise Farm was one the early produce vendors. Wendy Bauwens and her wagon, pulled by Sunnyside Farms' Norwegian Fjord horses, was one of the first events for children.  Vivian and Doug Logan's Old Livery Stable on Miles was used for the first Harvest Dinner.

Each year we strive to hit the very high mark the original group set for our Shields Valley Farmers Market!
